Participants for 2018 Program
Eight Women from the U.S., China, Albania, Iraq, India & Ethiopia Selected for Peacebuilding Training in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C.-June 26, 2018-The Andi Leadership Institute for Young Women (ALI) announced today that it has selected eight participants representing the U.S., China, Albania, India, Ethiopia and Iraq for its fourth seminar to be held August 5-18 at The School for Ethics and Global Leadership (SEGL) in Washington, D.C.
ALI focuses on providing young women with the necessary skills to mediate, negotiate, and transform conflict; bridge cultural divides by forging relationships with other participants; and lead peacebuilding initiatives in their countries of origin and beyond. ALI participants are mentored throughout the seminar and post-graduation in order to expand the global network of women equipped to enter into leadership positions and contribute to non-violent resolution of conflict. Aklile, age 26, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is currently a project manager with Setaweet, a uniquely Ethiopian feminist movement which was founded in July 2014. Aklile aspires to establish an institute with a focus on gender and conflict in the future.
Feifei, age 25, Changting, China, will graduate from Mississippi State University in August 2018 with a degree in International Business. Feifei first came to the U.S. as an international exchange student in 2011. In the future, she would like to pursue a higher degree in international relations and aspires to find a leadership role in a corporate development foundation program. Krishna, age 20, Ridgeland, MS, will be a junior at Mississippi State University as a political science & economics double major and minor in Spanish. Krishna has dedicated much of her time to raise awareness and support Syrian refugees in her community. After graduating in 2020, Krishna would like to pursue a law degree or a PhD in Public Policy. Laura, age 22, Starkville, MS, will graduate from Mississippi State University in May 2019 and is currently interning at World Vision in Washington, D.C. Laura hopes to complete a Master of Science in Foreign Service at Georgetown University and later join the U.S. State Department as a Foreign Service Officer or make impacts in the field of humanitarian relief. Lumjana, age 19, Tirana, Albania, is a senior at the Faculty of Studies Integrated with Practise in Durres, Albania. She is studying Small and Medium Enterprises Management and is an intern at Vodafone Albania. Lumjana works hard to empower women pursuing Business in her country and in the future she aspires to work with rehabilitation programs for domestic violence victims. Mary Grace, age 22, Queens, NY, graduated from Stonehill College in May 2017 with a Political Science and International Relations major. She was recently a Program Assistant for the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. and in July, she will lead a youth program to South Korea. In the future, Mary Grace is interested in pursuing a Masters in Peacebuilding or Conflict Transformation. |
